What exactly happened to the GameKnot Forums. I understand that they were closed but why ?

The bloke that runs gameknot was very unwilling to delegate responsibility. For some reason he wouldn't make anyone a moderator of the forums, and moderating them himself became too much work when some heated discussions on politics, religion, and sport cropped up.

It seems to me that Russ has everything under control. 🙂

Some of the religion threads, including Omnislash's original, have featured some thought-provoking argument. They have all featured some nastiness and closed-mindedness as well. A "Religion" forum totally misses the point; we are usually having some kind of argument, and the "bible thumping" is merely one rhetorical style whose merits I will not discuss here.

I'd suggest a "Philosophy" forum instead, which would include philosophy of religion, if we must be altering the forum structure.

I looked it up in a dictionairy:

thump v. & n. 1. v.t. & i. Beat or strike heavily esp. with fist ; deliver blows at,on.etc., esp. to attract attention; ~ (out), play (tune) on piano etc. with thumping of keys. 2. n. Heavy blow, bang.[imit.]

Now you've stated in your post " ... , and the "bible thumping" is merely one rhetorical style ... etc.".

I'm not that familiar with the inner emotional value of words in the English language, if you don't mind me expressing this the way I do, as I often would like to be. Now could you elaborate, if you want to, on the above quoted words taken from your previous post ? I'm not sure whether I do or don't understand the "bandwidth" of your words.

Maybe that's not the subject of this thread. It has someting to do with how we treat eachother.
Well, maybe it does fit in with "That does it" after all.

This is from the American Heritage Dictionary online.

Bible Thumper

NOUN: Offensive Used as a disparaging term for a Christian, especially a fundamentalist or evangelical Christian, considered to be overly zealous in haranguing or censuring others.

I agree with Russ.
When a thread goes into the philosophy/religion etc. direction I just don't read it again. We surely don't need so many forums - I think there's already too many.
More forums will just make moderation more difficult.
