Do you, Americans, notice how obsessed you are with race?

Honest question.

I didn't used to be. In fact I was offended when I was required to describe how I would differentiate my instruction with respect to my students' demographics. To me, that meant "how will you teach them differently because they're black". My response - I won't, and how dare you ask me that!

I got this ethnic obsession from Jesuits who claim that ignoring ethnicity is one of the ways the Man Keeps The People Down. It's deeply entrenched in Catholic Social Teaching. If you don't talk about ethnicity openly and use it as a resource, you naturally start discriminating against people who are not of the dominant culture e.g. forcing Standard American English-only teaching on poor kids who speak "Ebonics" or Spanish (but rich kids get sent to dual language immersion programs).

I also know that immigrant gangs like 18th Street and MS are some of the most racist people I've ever encountered, murdering blacks simply for being black.

My Nina is big on stereotyping too...

Chinese people are like this, Mexicans are like that, Americans are like this, Blacks are like that...

Ignoring ethnicity on the grounds of culture is counter productive, but ignoring ethinicity on the grounds of inclusion is vital. Knowing where to draw that line is difficult, but blanket positive or negative discrimination can only damage.

Race? Are you high (again)? We're somehow obsessed with the human race? Is that what you're laboring to say?

What do you mean by "screen"?
how did Obama get his black ethnicity? exposure in college? he apparently did not meet his black relatives until he was an adult, except for a few days or weeks, a few times.

re screening, i meant the question i posted and you've answered separately:

how far would a white guy get trying to claim black ethnicity for college admissions?

how about a black guy who was ethnically white?

Hey, man, tell me, how many times have you lived outside the States?

Listen here, I am not attacking you but, to be honest, you really know
only the Chinese in the States, the Mexicans in the States, etc.

Edit. By the way, hombre, I have a bonus trivia for you: which US
president referred to the expansionist policies of his Evil Empire as fully
justified because the whites should master weaker races? (using
those words)

I tell you, there's a long tradition of obsession with race right under
your feet.

What is odd is that one century later the same feelings
prevail though under a different veil of P.C., "free" trade,
and development policies forced down on people through
the suppository of the IMF and the like.

It is not my problem that you ignore history and the basics
of political economy.
