The purpose of the death penalty has nothing to do with reducing crime rate. It is to remove the criminal from society so that he cannot rape or kill again. Plus it saves millions of $$$ in incarceration costs.

Ask any politician who supports it.

They say "it's a deterrent to others".

The cases with sufficient evidence should not take 30 years for execution.

Trump took out a full page ad in the Times saying they should be executed.

DNA evidence eventually exonerated them.
