Question about international law

So, I don’t know much about law.

But let’s say some country decides to just kidnap the president of another country just like that, and then takes over the oil production from that country…

Is that totally fine?

Like, would that not amount to stealing?

And, let’s say a part of the population of the stealing country supports these practices, while also wanting people who aren’t from that country to leave, because they don’t want those people to have their stuff.

Is that totally fine?

Like, would that not amount to being hypocritical?

And, let’s say the unthinkable happens and the people from this country actually vote for a decent president after the current turd, what will or should this country then do to atone for their thievery?

Fair questions.

As to the first: international law gives heads of state near immunity, much like diplomats. So they can do their jobs. Only the ICC has a mandate to put foreign leaders on trial for various offences.

US domestic law is different.

And that’s where it really starts to get murky.

Hand over Trump to them.

Clearly a TDS case. Venezuela was under 2 ruthless dictators Chavez and Maduro for over 25 years. People suffered, they starved to death and were persecuted and killed. Critical business were expelled from the country and their assets stolen by the state. In that period it is estimated around 10,000,000 fled into neighbouring states.

You are an idiot.

You’re an idiot and a fascist.

Doesn’t mean the questions aren’t worthwhile examining.

And tds is not a thing. Stop parrotting US entertainment sites.

Kidnapping a foreign head of state is an act of war. It doesn’t matter what the pretext is. It doesn’t matter whether he is a nice guy or is popular or unpopular in his own country.

What is it with you people calling everything “TDS” when we’re complaining about the actions of THE CURRENT PRESIDENT, b meanwhile you and that Orange Buffoon keep whining about Biden and Obama - FORMER PRESIDENTS? Why on Earth should we not talk about the actions of the CURRENT PRESIDENT?

Trump did not kidnap Maduro for the sake of the Venezuelan people. He did so, so that America could steal the oil. Which they have.

America is not the police of the world. It is not up to America to make decisions for other countries.

Why is America not removing other dictators? Because there’s no oil there.

America has once again committed a full-on act of war and gets away with it. In a better world, Trump would’ve been brought before the ICC.

Ignoring all of that is the real TDS.

You are an ignorant fool. Venezuela under Chavez in 2000 stole the assets of American and European firms and expelled them. That is illegal and is an act of war. Venezuela started the war.

It is of no surprise you’d eat up anything the dictator says and will accept any war crime he commits.

As Trump once said, he could shoot someone dead, and your ilk would still support him.

Or he could commit sex crimes, and you’d once again wouldn’t care.

This has nothing to do with what Trump says you dunce. I live next door to Venezuela and I know how things went down there in 2000. What a damn fool.

Unfortunately, international law is based on the assumption that the five permanent UN veto holders are responsible for "spheres of influence" around the world to prevent any more World Wars.

Ukraine is in the Russian sphere, and Latin America is in the American sphere.

You belong to France. Talk to them if you have concerns.

Clever of France to elbow their way into becoming the Fifth Policeman.

I don't usually waste my time responding to your posts any more because those that aren't out and out hateful, bigoted garbage manage to be equally ridiculously ignorant but for anyone who's interested expropriations of foreign nationals property is not an act of war and use of force in retaliation is a clear violation of IL as there are systems in place for those allegedly wronged to seek redress:

"The US military intervention in Venezuela amounts to a manifest breach of the prohibition on the use of force under international law. Neither self-defence nor authorization by the UN Security Council can be invoked to justify the use of military force under these circumstances."

"International investment law allows foreign investors to bring claims directly against host States for unlawful expropriation and other forms of abusive conduct before international arbitral tribunals. These tribunals often operate under the rules of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Most investment claims are legally based on specific contracts or international investment treaties that grant private investors access to investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS). Awards rendered under the ICSID Convention are enforceable in all 158 Contracting States as if they were final judgments of domestic courts. This specific legal system is deliberately designed to address past wrongdoing through financial compensation in a rule-based and judicialized process between foreign investors and States. "

"This system has also proven effective for US investors in the specific context of Venezuela’s expropriations. A prominent example is the ICSID arbitration in ConocoPhillips v Venezuela. The dispute concerned the nationalisation of heavy oil projects in the Orinoco Belt, in which the claimant held substantial interests. In its award of 8 March 2019, the tribunal ordered Venezuela to pay damages of approximately USD 8.3 billion for the unlawful expropriation. The award is internationally enforceable under the ICSID Convention and has been recognised by US courts. Other cases point in the same direction. In Venezuela Holdings et al v Venezuela, concerning nationalised investments made by Exxon Mobile in heavy oil projects, an ICSID tribunal awarded nearly USD 1 billion in damages in July 2023. Also, in Tidewater v Venezuela, involving the seizure of maritime infrastructure essential to oil operations, the tribunal awarded USD 46.4 million in compensation."

Why doesn’t your coveted IC tell Putin to quit, or Iran to quit funding terrorism?

Because the IC is a fukin joke just like you.

The US is a sovereign country

So was Nazi Germany, but that didn't stop international tribunals from punishing its government officials for war crimes and other violations of IL.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/8/30/trump-says-us-will-refill-its-petroleum-reserves-using-venezuelan-oil

Trump said in the post that the “topping out” process will ‌begin shortly, describing the Venezuelan oil as a “Gift from Venezuela to the People of the United States”.

The real test for the future of America will be how much it will sincerely apologise once Trump is gone.

What a despicable country it is.
