Health care in the USA is expensive. Is for profit health care to blame for most of those higher costs?

There are for profit health systems one can put up for comparison side by side.

Cheap, fast, minimal wait lists. The Vet

The difference between the two - health care for animals enjoys minimal goobermint intervention.

this seems like one of those cases where the answer is so obvious that nobody will give it to you because they think you're trolling or are dumb as a rock

Not primarily, there are (largely) for-profit health care systems in e.g. Switzerland, the Netherlands and France that provide near-universal health care at a lower cost. The main difference is that the U.S. health care market is particularly inefficiently regulated and organized.

One word explains the high cost of American Healthcare:

Greed.

And it's not good.

From Wall Street investment to the pharmaceutical industry; the misplaced ethos of greed in healthcare has overtaken the most basic of our humanitarian instincts:
The palliation of pain and alleviation of suffering.

Until Healthcare lobbyists are unable to purchase politicians, nothing will change. It's a true American shame.

Personally I would like to see doctors and hospitals forced to lower their prices by doing away with health insurance altogether.

But too many fearful people to trust in the self reliance solution.

Americans aren't significantly more greedy than the Swiss, Dutch or French.

But yeah, criminalizing bribery would be a good first step.

Limiting political contributions to no more than 10 percent median individual income would work for me.

No where does it say in the Constitution that the rich have the right to have a greater voice than the common man. As a matter of fact the electoral college was put into place to prevent the large rich states from dominating the smaller states.

And, incidentally, it's also the reason why, in the 21st century, we still don't have a cure for cancer. Too many people are making too damn much money on it.

Wow, again, that's just stupid. States don't vote.

Using the popular vote instead of the ridiculous EC gives everyone the same vote. One.

In most states, the EC is 'winner take all', meaning my vote in 2016 meant exactly bupkis. THIS is why some people don't bother to vote. Give EVERYONE a vote and the worst of this greedy gang of thieves would be ousted in a heartbeat.

Developing treatments on the other hand .......
