You know, that is exactly WHY DEI policies were created in the first place and WHY the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964. Yet white people have now created this narrative where "white people get bypassed in favor of blacks", which is patently UNtrue. Racism is still so endemic in this country that black people are still bypassed in favor of whites, and even more so NOW that this idiotic "anti-DEI" crap is popular.

@sh76 saidTheoretically, it could be possible that DEI programs would have that effect. It is a plausible idea, I suppose, and one that should be scrutinized to ensure, as you say, that qualified people are in these important positions.
I don't know how it is with the airline training programs, but in medical school (from what I've heard) and law school, for that matter (from what I've seen with my own eyes), once you're in, they do whatever they can to push you through. You have to be pretty lazy or dumb to flunk out of these programs.
For such important jobs as doctor, lawyer and pilot, I'd like to see gatekeeping at every step to ensure that only the truly meritorious get through
Luckily, there are hundreds of minority pilots and thousands of non-minority pilots and we have all their safety records and can comb through that data to see if DEI practices are resulting in safety issues. Gosh, if there were serious safety concerns regarding air travel that could be solved by firing pilots based on a box they check on the application, what a no-brainer fix.
It turns out, someone looked, and there's no difference. The same with doctors. Your theory does not hold water.
