The AI companies have to do a lot more to prove it's safe and doesn't consume all the power and freshwater. Until they do that, then yes there should be a moratorium.

They re-cycle the same water.
Getting tiresome researching for you little hot heads. And you still bitch about gas prices. When Iran is put down, and gas goes down to your magic number, will you say Iran was a good idea? naaaaa

Yes, modern data centers reuse and recycle water multiple times within their cooling systems before discharging it. [1] (https://www.valicor.com/blog/how-ai-really-uses-water-despite-that-meme-you-saw)

It is known in the business as Reuse Water.. Everyone knows that, so you are trying to stir things up.

AI data centers are going up all over the world and people like you are going to be pushed into the background. Right now in our tiny island the government has approved a pretty big data center. The naysayers are complaining but nobody is listening.

The cat is out of the bag. AI is power. The military is all up in it because it.
Banning such a powerful tool is impossible. DARPA would ignore any ban and develop it anyway. Anybody who says otherwise is naive.

Nuclear power consumes a lot of water too. They are steam engines. That is why they have cooling towers. How do you feel about nuclear power?

You might debate Sonhouse on this . I know not much science. Maybe I will later if there is money in it.
Sonhouse will tell you BTW, water is ever used up. We have the same amount of water on this planet as has been there since time.
In some of our genius, inventors and innovators, which most countries do not have, certainly Finland Norway, or that other place MB talked about, some of those guys are going to invent a way to make seawater usable for the cooling purpose. Maybe that's where I will make my investment.

De-saltation plants…

Anyhoo… AI used up a large amount of energy.
And at a certain point, there will have to be a discussion: how much energy goes to AI and how much to humans?

Or do you propose data-warehouses and energy plants all over the place? And yet you complain about wind turbines?

AI has a great many benefits. Agreed.
However, in each wargame they use AI in, it ends in a nuclear holocaust.
It’s the end game rationalized, same as what Bertrand Russel explained in the 60’s (I think).

Ultimately, the majority of scientists and philosophers agree that AI will end humanity.

So, to use AI’s own rationality, if you want humanity to survive, you have to end AI.

Pull the plug.

When AI appeared on the Horizon, I wish so much that I had said "Uh oh, something else for the libs to find fault with, to be negative about."

Just yesterday I said that y'all hate everything. What a life!

Yes. Rational people tend to dislike things that are going to end humanity.

Funny that, eh?

This one says AI will ruin humanity you fellas got one good crystal ball

People who use AI literally lose the ability to think and remember, in the way that a person being carried around all day would lose the use of their legs, what possibly could go wrong with having it ubiquitously available for everyone all the time?

Imagine if there's a pill that makes you dumber and your government forced everyone to swallow it?

Looks like Google is sourcing you. So, do we not use AI?
Will AI make us dumber?Loss of practice: Letting AI write or think for you stops your brain from practicing hard skills.Weaker memory: People remember fewer facts when a search tool is always ready to help.Less critical thinking: Accepting every AI answer without checking facts leads to lazy habits. Not permanent damage: Your brain still works the same way; the risk comes from bad habits, not a change in your biology.Other major downsides of AIJob loss: Machines take over routine tasks and replace human workers in many industries.Privacy risks: Companies track and store large amounts of private user data.Spread of bias: AI learns from old human data and can copy unfair prejudices.Fake information: Bad actors use AI to make false stories, images, and videos look real.High energy use: Running huge AI servers takes a massive amount of electricity and harms the environment. If you want, tell me:Are you worried about AI in your job?Do you want tips on how to use AI safely and smartly?

Don't use AI if you want to actually think and retain information.

I think a moratorium on AI makes sense until we can figure out what responsible use and abuse looks like, think more carefully about where the data centers are going in, why and how they're getting built, and build effective safeguards against the surveillance and hacking AI that is taking over everything. If we keep going at this pace, we will be diverting more power to AI than to humans, our brains will atrophy, and then we might as well just let the computers run government and do as Sam Altman wants "let the AI algorithm decide where to allocate resources..."

I'm sorry man. The dystopian quotes are coming from the CEOs of the companies who are making the technology. They want to run the world and rid us of the burden of voting and making our own decisions. Does that not scare you?

Every wargame ends with AI causing a nuclear war.

Most of our “greatest thinkers” deem it dangerous.

So… do the maths…
