The Big Sleep, was awesome. i like these older movies, despite the lack of technical innovations or gimmickry camera work, they somehow make up for it with characters and stories!

its true! those technobots have got nothing on a good storey and interesting characters. CGI is all very well, but its the human aspects i think appeal to us most. right now i am watching , The enigma of Kasper Hauser, about a so called feral child, recently DNA testing has shown that he was of royal decent. No CGI there my man, just story and characters. You CGI junkies can read it an weep!

Case in point: The Twighlight Zone- Most pathetic special effects ever, but so well written and performed that they were what they were ment to be, background and set dressing. The main focus was the story being told.

Hi, Bosse, yes it is, and what is more, one can watch it on-line for free in its entirety. I myself am not a German speaker, but was amazed to listen and try to determine just how closely related German and English are. The point where a little boy is teaching him the names of the body parts was a case in point, the words being almost identical. The film seems to be true to the historic account as it has come down to us.

i actually had severe nightmares after watching some of those episodes, even now, as a man, they haunt my psyche.

If you have a widescreen version, add Spartacus to your list.

Spartacus you say Baddy, isnt it really sad at the end? i kind of remember seeing all that Roman cruelty, but if you have recommended it, i shall give it a try. I really want to see the Kirk Douglas film, the Viking, it has a great scene with all the Vikings biting into large pieces of meat and drinking mead out of Goblets served by pretty maidens, as it should be! Right now i am watching the Godfather 2, its also awesomness!

Great list. I have 4 of them and another 8 on my 'want list'.

I would add 'The maltese Falcon', 'Flight of the Phoenix', 'Quite Man', and 'Das Boot'

Yes, with Lauren Baccall as his protagonist. It's not as grandiouse as Casablanca, but she truly is excellent and I think it's got more character than Casablanca, though I'm aware that most people disagree.
