Tina Brooks - Minor Move
Bobby Hutcherson - Knucklebean
Art Ensemble of Chicago - Tribute to Lester
Grant Green - Gooden's Corner
Harold Land Quartet - The Peace-Maker

Have been doing the vibes thing of late. Lots of friends accuse me of listening to elevator music, but I suppose my insistence that Hutcherson is *not* elevator music falls upon deaf ears 🙁

I wouldn't categorize anything I've heard from Hutcherson as anything close to 'elevator music'. Is it that particular album? I see it was recorded in the '70s. Lots of scary things were recorded in the '70s. It's a decade I avoid as a general rule.

Kenny Burrell's Midnight Blue is quite nice on a car or a bike at night.

Mind you petrol's so expensive nowadays, so go for the latter.

Art Tatum: Piano Starts Here, Live at the Shrine

ZENPH re-performance

Sony 88697-22318-2

one reviewer on Amazon said: "I cannot be more blown away by the artistry and magic of Art Tatum. Zenph with this Sony/BMG release has uncovered nuance and wizardry that has been lost to time. This CD, especially the binaural headphone version, allows the listener to experience Tatum's playing as HE heard it."

I agree -- Spider Robinson wrote the liner notes and thinks it not impossible that anyone from this planet could play a piano as Tatum did.

The headphone version was recorded binaurally, so you hear the music from Tatum's own relative position to the keyboard. Time for some air piano!!

Tatum was something else. I have the Complete Pablo Masterpieces. How does this compare?
