Clans

When I am not arguing with VR and playing clan games for the Sopranos, I am a business owner and web developer for a subscription-based website.

Growing a subscription-based website means mobile development - pretty much 95% of the time. Web content is consumed on mobile devices and that trend is just going to get stronger not weaker.

To that end - asking the overlords here to spend development time on improving the clan feature is an opportunity cost that honestly does not make a lot of business sense.

However here we are.

I ask the clan community - is there value is modifying the clan feature so clans have the option to compete in a table where all clans will play the same amount of games in a yearly window. That may be a second competition - a Cup or Tournament - or may be the Net Points this year - most table.

It doesn't matter which and that is a discussion for another day. Todays question is simple - as the development roadmap is being built for 2027 and 2028 - should some time be set aside for update of the clan feature. Yes or no.

If it is going to be Yes - we are going to need more than the dozen or so Clan Forum denizens. We need every clan to talk to their members and ask them to take a moment to vote in the poll. Its take less than 30 seconds to come to the Clan forum and vote in a poll. It takes less than 2 minutes to ask all your clan members to come vote.

As many clan leaders don't come here at all - if you want change - go find them and tell them about this poll.

It is going to take a groundswell to get on the development radar. If not so be it. Maybe the current system is fine and change is not needed.

"so clans have the option to compete in a table where all clans will play the same amount of games in a yearly window."
I have suggested variations of this many times over the years my friend.
I don't think it's going to happen.
That is why I would answer "no" in your poll if I were still a clan leader.

I don't understand what you are saying. The poll is for everyone on the site - not just clan leaders. I thought I made that clear.

"I don't think it's going to happen.

Isn't that just self-fulfilling prophecy? Of course it is not going to happen if people vote no. But what if they vote yes?

Doesn't Yes allow for potential progress?

Sorry John,I misunderstood.I didn't think I could vote
and as you say most clan leaders don't bother with the forum.
I suppose as I've campaigned for years for alterations to stem the obsession with the net points list I should vote yes.
Let's see what response you get.

@Bish I thought it was Banter, now you are calling it an argument, you seem quite indecisive.

It will be quite interesting to see how many votes it gets. Then see how many players are on the Site!!!

Dave is correct most Clan leaders don't even look at this forum, hardly none of the players even bother with it.

Many clans don't even bother with their own Clan Forum from what I have heard. Some like BB send out mass messages or P.M., which ever is best suited for the situation.

If change is required it should be by the majority of the Clan Challenge Players in my most humble opinion. I do see the point of 2 Clans dominating everyone else. Question is should they be penalized for this or asked to play less games?

Perhaps I am just getting old and tired of the back and forth on this on something that has been going on almost as long as the Site has been here.

Call it what you want - it is not personal and it is all in the spirit of an online community that needs conflict to survive.

I disagree with almost everything you say and I don't like that you think I am duplicitous. But it is always the ideas, not the person.

The site and the world at large are better for your contributions. It honestly saddens me that you have health challenges. You and I are a lot alike VR - two sides of the same coin. We should be able to enjoy this time now that we have less day-to-day responsibility and enough resources to eat, drink and be merry when, where, and how we please.

I understand that my ideas of changing the Clan system were doomed from the beginning . That was not reason not to try. There is almost nothing in this world that is not better with change. That is an opinion.

There is almost nothing in this world that is not better when people use their positive energy and time trying to change it - whether they succeed or not. I believe that is a fact - maybe we can ask KellyJay.

New ideas are nutrition for a healthy society.

Shine on you crazy diamond. ⭐💎🥂

It doesn’t harm the site at all to have these polls and debate potentially healthy outcomes for activity.

An updated clan system could give renewed energy to players. I myself would even consider setting up my own group to compete.

However, not in its current guise - the way the leaderboard is calculated gives merit to the most active team which is not necessarily the best team. That’s hard to understand and a revision or addition to the current structure should be considered.

I possibly lack understanding but any argument against exploring the above seems very strange.

@Bish,

Bantering and arguementative are two different meanings as you well know. At first you say it is Bantering, then you say it arguing which are two different meanings.

It doesn't matter to me that you disagree with most of what I say, the feeling is mutual, exception being we have to find something for those who can't play the amount of games BB and Metallica play and probably never will. You say it isn't about winning something but it certainly is about winning something

Shine on you crazy diamond is an expression I've never heard. You do understand most don't look at this Forum only a handful of people, there seem to be 5 of you on the same page. I assume pre-planned.

Excellent idea and well stated!!!! We can do better, and we should, so that everything is always fair. Some of the bigger clans certainly know how to manipulate things in their favor, which is certainly fair because it is legal, and these guys know how to hold things down to appear fair. What is fair is that members are always matched within 100 points of the year's highs and lows, and that the challenges are set using an algorithm that helps keep everything running. Other than that, the clans that accept the most challenges and play hard will be the ones that stay on top. Not the clans that keep higher-rated players 200 points below their capability when they only play a small number of games, praying that they can always lead a lopsided challenge!!!! Put your best foot forward, and if this makes you mad in any way, then you are one of the guys I am talking about, and your EGO is wounded from the truth. Feel free to comment, and know that I will always speak the truth and retort. Have a great day and good luck.

I've posted in the 6 Max clan forum.

@Bish
Glad that you are having this conversation. Thanks.

I joined a couple clans a couple years back and nothing much was going on - occasional matches and there was little consequence one way or another. I was invited to join BB late last year. It's active, we are competing as a team, and there is greater consequence to my matches now. I'm engaged!

It would be great if it was more than a two horse race, but it is because two clans are super engaged. Exploring different ways clans can compete is worth exploring for sure.

Shine on you crazy diamond refers to Syd Barratt who was a member of Pink Floyd in the early days.
I'm not going to expand on that here.

Well said.
It's true most clans exist for the convenience of having their leaders find games for them.
I ran a clan for years and only a few of the members were interested in the clan performance even though we did reasonably well.
I sent out a newsletter on stats, performance and clan matters every month and got little feedback.
As to the two horse race and the net points list,I've said it all before.

Thanks Dave,

I didn't listen to much of Pink FLoyd back in the day.

Everything is fair, just Metallica and Breaking Bad are able to play more challenges than the rest on the Clans. Even Metallica don't have as many clans play them as they use to have. Breaking Bad did at least while I was there have more clan playing them than any other clan.

I agree something has to be done, BUT what ever it is has to be accepted by the majority of p;layers not by a hand full of Clan Leaders, in my humble opinion. As I've said before if people don't like it they have their options of what they can do. Personally I would go along with what was decided by the majority of players not just Clan Leaders.

I believe Russ would go with what the majority decided as he has in the past!
