Would anyone be interested in a thematic tourney with the Grivas Sicilian? The starting position is shown below:

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Qb6

It's a relatively unexplored line that resembles the Scheveningen Variation of the Siclian, from what I've read.

I just thought it would be interesting...that and it might bring some attention to a relatively rare but completely playable line.

What about Nb3 then Be3 - does that not just end up wasting blacks time with the Qc6 move while white plays moves which are quite indigenous to the sicillian game.

I've played 2000+ rated players a lot. Don't be afraid of them.

The tournament is up and running, I dont usually play thematic tournaments but this one got me interested.

Tournament 2768

I am glad I am not in group 5, that is going to be a tough slog to win.

...and you. Don't be intimidated. Play to your strengths and remember, thematic matches tend to favour the brave.

I'm not really that worried. I honestly doubt that I'll win (from a realistic standpoint), but I won't go out without fighting. I've had a few draws against 1800+ players, and even an occasional win. So I'll take a stab at it. Thanks for the encouragement, though. 🙂
