So, the man who said "There are two valid answers here" chooses a third answer.
I did not answer. I requested more information.

If the man needed to kill Donald Trump, would you help?

You better be careful. You'll have the FBI busting through your front door posting sentences like that.
There are many things I like about the good old USA. The one thing I hate is that their system of education produces millions of idiots like you.

    It depends.

The assessment of “need” might be determined by myself. Knowing who is asking the question, I have little doubt the man would ask of me a request that compromised my own needs and values.
Good point, what do we mean by need. Necessity in philosophy is something along the lines of "There is no possible world acceptable to me where I do not get this thing.", so most people would accept statements like: "I need to get to work.", since getting bawled out by one's boss for bad time-keeping is never pleasant. But failing to get to work isn't life threatening (assuming a non-psychopathic boss) and even if it were it's not like one's breaking the laws of physics. So I'd like some precision about what is meant by "need" here.

My work which consists, in part, of answering the crisis phone in my county, requires me to assess need in relation to response. I’m often asked “What is a crisis?” What the questioner generally means is, “When should I call the crisis line?” My answer is, “You get to determine if you are having a crisis, I am here to determine how we respond to that crisis.”

Sometimes the response is to engage the response of law enforcement or emergency responders, sometimes it is to engage our mobile response team, and sometimes response is simply working through coping strategies together as the crisis is diffused and determined manageable. I ask questions like, “who is there who can help you where you are?”

Most of the time what is needed is simple human presence...someone to help process through a problem, and collectively gathering resources. Most of the time (although sometimes) I am not the one who personally meets with that person face to face...and most of the time my presence is simply to hold peaceful presence until the requester can determine and meet their own need.
