Many Christians believe Atheists are going to hell because they don't believe in Jesus. Many Atheists think Christians are gullible naifs incapable of critical thinking and oblivious to cold hard reality. (That is to say, they drank the cool aid.) Both positions exist, but they both can't be correct.

My view is that the only miracle about Christianity is that it has fooled so many people for so long!

There are some web sites and utube videos that basically say that Jesus is just another manifestation of the Egyptian god Ra. In fact there are those that say there is a long list of gods that were very similar to Jesus. These gods were before Jesus and would make one wonder why the similarity. Was it the lack of creative thought or coincidence? Are these web site full of bs or has christianity really been a scam on humanity?

Have you ever bothered to read his teachings? If so, are these a scam as well or are the relavent to us all? As for the god Ra, I would love to read his teachings and compare them. LOL.

This video makes a solar connection to the similarities between Jesus and the similar gods before him.

It gives examples of a bunch of gods that were born dec 25, died and resurected after 3 days. Showed why bethlehem was chosen for the birthplace of Jesus and tied in the Zodiac calander. Some of the other gods mothers were named mary and were virgins. A lot had 12 deciples, were the alpha and omega, king of kings, lamb, etc...etc... .I don't know if the video is truth or not but I have looked into a few examples and it seems like he may have a point. One point of the video that was kinda funny is in the intro a cartoon of the pope in a bullet proof suv being an example of faith in action.

First of all, Christ was NOT born December 25. No one says he was, rather, it was adopted to celebrate his birth to try and convert pagans. Secondly, there may be similarities, but to say that they are related is another thing altogether.

As for the Jewish tradition, they had prophesied about the coming Messiah long before Christianity came on the scene. Is the source attacking the Jewish Messiah or only Christianity?

You would have to see the video. I don't advocate it as truth but other things in the Jesus birth coincide with Dec. 25 that are related to astrology in the bible. You are correct in the date dec. 25 is not given in the bible. The other things besides the date of birth are beyond coincedence. It could be an ellaborate hoax thousands of years in the making trying to discredit Jesus even before he was born, but the dates go way back. None of this has an impact on my belief in God but it is interesting.

I've heard before about the similarities between the story of Jesus and Egyptian mythology, it's Horus not Ra that's similar. A quick check produced these -

1. Horus born of a virgin. <> Jesus born of a virgin.

2. The foster father of Horus was Seb or Seph. <> Jesus was fostered by Joseph.

3. Horus was of royal descent. <> Jesus was of royal descent.

4. Horus birth accompanied by three solar deities [star gazers] who followed by the morning star of Sirius bearing gifts. <> Jesus birth accompanied by three wise men [Zoroastrian star gazers] who followed by a star “in the east” bearing gifts.

5. The birth of Horus announced by angels. <> The birth of Jesus announced by angels.

6. Herut tried to murder the infant Horus. <> Herod slaughtered every first born in an attempt to kill Jesus the forthcoming messiah.

7. Horus is baptized at age 30 by Anup the Baptiser at a river. <> Jesus is baptized at age 30 by John the Baptist at a river.

8. Horus resists temptation by the evil Sut [Sut was to be the precursor for the Hebrew Satan] on a high mountain. <> Jesus resists temptation by Satan on a high mountain.

9. Horus had 12 followers. <> Jesus had 12 disciples.

10. Horus performed miracles like healing the sick and walking on water. <> Jesus performed miracles like healing the sick and walking on water.

11. Horus raised someone from the grave [his father Osiris] <> Jesus raised Lazarus [notice the name similarity] from the grave. Lazarus is short for Elasarus - the “us” on the end is romanized. Elasarus was derived from “El-Asar” which was the name given to Osiris.

12. Horus was buried and resurrected in the city of Anu. <> The place Bethany mentioned in John was a derivative of the words “Bet” and “Anu” which translates “the house of Anu”. The ‘y’ on the end of bethany is interchangeable with the letter ‘u’.

13. Horus was killed by crucifixtion. <> Jesus was crucified.

14. Horus was accompanied by two thieves at the crucifixtion. <> Jesus was crucified with two thieves.

15. Horus was buried in a tomb at Anu. <> Jesus was buried in a tomb located in Bethany [Bet-Anu].

16. Horus was resurrected after 3 days. <> Jesus was “said” to resurrected after over a period of three days.

17. The resurrection of Horus was announced by three women. <> The resurrection of Jesus was announced by three women.

18. Horus was given the titel KRST which means “anointed one” <> Jesus was given the title Christ [Christos] meaning “anointed one”.

And something else striking -

According to author Robert Price, specialists in mythology such as Lord Raglan, Otto Rank, and others have developed a concept called the "Mythic Hero Archetype" -- a type of larger-than-life man found in many Indo-European and Semitic cultures. They have analyzed stories and myths of Aeneas, Arthur, Buddha, David, Gilgamesh, Heracles, Lohengrin, Moses, Odysseus, Oedipus, Perseus, Romulus, Siegfried, etc. and have identified twenty-two recurring elements in these myths. Typically, the life story of any one hero contains many, but not all, of the twenty-two components.

Author Alan Dundes has compared this archetype with events in the life of Jesus, as recorded in the Christian Scriptures. He found that Jesus' life contained almost all of the twenty two elements.

The Christian view, as you present it, it unverifiable. That there are intelligent Christians aplenty (even 3 1/2 that regularly post here at RHP) disproves the contrary position.

Several gods have the similarities besides Horus.

Some people wouldn't know what to do with themselves in the absence of their religious beliefs. Or, in other words, some people find themselves at a total loss when faced with the mere idea that they might have to base their morals on something OTHER than the bible ('cause what would that be?). It is a terrifying thing for many. For others, their religion helps to at least make them try to WANT to 'stay in line' (aka be a "good person" whether they succeed or not). I personally don't really care if people believe in christ as long as it keeps people from $#!tting a brick en masse.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Christians propose an absolute truth. An objective good and objective evil. Atheists are dangerous people period. If you stand for nothing you will fall for anything. The insidious evil of the atheist is the extrapolation that Humans -via evolution or whichever mechanism they choose, ultimately results in mankind being mere -"bio-machines." No soul. Therefore all is permissable. Life in the ID lane is the ideal for the thinking atheist. Euthanasia, Genocide, cloning a la Hitler is really ok with them. Do not believe me? Then tell me this then...why do we have abortion? Ahm? It is not a baby, it is not a soul it is a bio mass. A fetus. The preborn are not entitled to constitutional rights of LIFE, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Go in at 8 nor 9 months and kill IT! But my goodness we must SAVE THE WHALES! One might say that Atheists are the ultimate child molester. If one can not see this they are irretreivable.
