A 3 parter screening on BCC 2 at 9pm tonight.

Might be worth a look.
Evidence (as if we did not already know) that the ancients texts from which
the Bible is made have been tampered with or airbrushed out.

God has/had a wife (Asherah) again hardly startling news.
I read about this years ago but in the pre-programme blurb on R4
they claim to have unearthed new evidence that certain bits
(the important bits) of the Bible have been altered in a drastic way
to fit the theory.

(already I can hear the slamming shut of closed minds).

So Earth was a joint creation, which explains a lot.
80% of the Earth is covered in salt water which humans cannot drink.
Only a woman would come up with that.
God had a wife and she was blonde. 😉

As I said in another thread, believing everything you hear doesn't mean you have an open mind, it means you have a weak mind. It is entirely possible to have an open mind yet remain skeptical about most of the ridiculous things you hear.

I agree. But there are those who refuse to accept or look at anything
that may question what they think they know.
If it rocks their wee boat then they don't want to know.

We must look, learn and question everything.

Just over 100 years it was claimed by good authority that man would never fly.
"A ridiculous idea."

Without open minds and a williness to explore and question everything
then our feet would have remained on the ground.

Is the same as saying if you stand for nothing you will fall for anything? 🙂

If you began counting the many (and even novel) scenarios concocted over the years by very earnest folks whose main criteria was to call into question the veracity of the Bible, you'd have a very large number indeed.

In terms of success for these endeavors, however, the count remains the same: 0-for-[fill in number here]. Without question, there have been some convincing and impressive attempts, yet at the end of the day the theories unravel and whatever evidence remains continues to point toward that one inevitable conclusion: the Bible is to be trusted, whereas the shifting sands upon which man's conniving are based do nothing more than mark the time.

Without pre-judging it before I see it...

As with all these programmes I expect to hear the words;

"Perhaps...Maybe...It is possible that...."
To make a common appearance at the beginning.

If they say it often enough it soons becomes fact in the viewers mind.

So they drop the "Perhaps...Maybe...It is possible that...."
towards the end of the programme because they have established
that as a fact.

It's an old TV trick.

Indeed. One's mind should never be so open that one's brains fall out!

strange that so many are concerned with what's not in the Bible rather than trying to understand what actually is, interesting phenomena.

Not too bad was it?

Apparently God's wife has been shelved till next week.
R4 said it was tonight, perhaps I mis-heard but would not be suprised
if some ecclesiastical movement were not trying to stop it from being shown.

So This week. David & Goliath.

The Pitch:
Plenty of mentions in the Bible of Saul and David yet no hard evidence
at all to prove they actually existed.

(The Hotel David and all the other David tourist traps do not count).

Thay have a name carved on a piece of rock but for years that was
suspected of being a forgery. Last I heard the feeling was 50/50.
She said 'almost certainly' not.

Then she shot it down from another direction adding more punch
to her own theory. Clever stuff.

"They dug with a spade in one hand and a Bible in the other."
Lifted straight from Van Daniken, now that is stooping.

Shuddered when they produced a piece pottery claiming the Philistines
("Who perhaps came from Crete." ) were not.....er...Philistines.

Hate it when they show pottery pieces to establish facts.
It could have been made anywhere and then traded or stolen.
Pottery is a very dodgy source to build a theory on.
You need the on site kiln. No kiln, no clue, no clout.

Plenty of hard evidence elsewhwere that the Philstines were just
as artistic as anyone else.
Not great writers though, hardly left anything.
Eventually they got wiped out aound about 5 BC.

Which makes them the perfect race to tell tall sories about.
Tall as in Goliath tall.
No records, no decendants, this lot are just too perfect.

Infact if you read your Bible you will see it's got this one all screwed up.

The Bible says David the shepherd boy slew Goliath and took
his severed head to Jerusalem.

Yet the same Bible tells us that Jerusalem was in enemy hands at the time
when Saul was King and Jerusalem was only freed during David's reign.
How odd. I blame the translators.

Anyway back to the programme.

Liked the bit where the girl put her neck on the line. And she did.
After a few of her statements there will be certain powerful people who
will be doing their utmost to make sure she does appear on telly again
or hold down a teaching position.

Could have been worse.
If that bunch of clowns from Time Team had been there they would
have found the very stone that slew Goliath.

Please accept my apology for calling you closed minded in the other thread . It was a quick response that I had not through properly. It was unwarranted and I hope you will forgive me.

Your response about being skeptical yet having an open mind is totally valid, and I feel slightly embarressed for having levelled that against you.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Yes, it is important in all spiritual guessing to keep a balnced outlook while making whatever assertions.

Agreed ,(this time 🙂

It was quite good.
I can live with the assumption that the South wrote the bible and gave the North a bad press.
However, at the time it was written, the North was in serious decline (the Assyrians destroyed them, basically), and I can't help but wonder if the South wrote the bible:

- The good old Hebrew tradition that people who lose are losers and should be noted as such.
- To lay claim to the land to some extent for future generations ("see... it did belong to us..."😉.

not funny
unless you're serious, in which case: not intelligent (stupid) and mysoginistic
