dj, remember a few months ago we had a conversation about the most effective ways to share your faith? One of the things I suggested was to avoid the type of "Christian cliché" that this story exemplifies. You really need to understand that these kinds of things are not for "non-Christian" consumption they serve no purpose to the non-believer they are O ...[text shortened]... d make in these forums AND avoid the future posting of pointless propaganda.

I suppose I posted this mostly for the Christians. But I didn't think labeling the thread "Christains Only" would help. 😀

As much as putting a worm in front of a hungry fish when you're hoping for some time to enjoy that Cuban you brought along.

For all those who are genuinely interested in the relationship between Religion and Science, and for those who ignorantly simply deny there is a positive relationship, I suggest they read the Encyclical dealing with this subject.

Religion and Science (Fides et Ratio), 1998.

It is interesting that the Introduction to this Encyclical is called "Know yourself".

If God is good and evil is the absence of good, does it not follow that God is absent where there is evil? Doesn't that contradict a very important characteristic of the Christian God - omni-presence?

If God's will is good, it to is absent in evil situations. If God does not impose his will everywhere, is he then not omnipotent?

Why would an omnipotent God allow Himself to be nailed to a Cross ?

See? Even random guesses are sometimes right. And who said evolution was statistically impossible?

So here we have a Post claiming to be a debate between Science an Christianity.

The "defender" of science turns out to be a philosophy professor, not a scientist.

The apparent conclusion is that evil does not exist but is merely the abscence of good. This is not explained in detail and cirtainly does not explain:
- does the devil exist or is he merely the abscence of God.
- how do we know that good is not merely the abscence of Evil.
- why are there abscences of good - this was the real argument that the philosophy professor started with but was apparently avoided by the christian answering. ie to not provide good to all mankind is in itself not good and therefore an abscence of good ("evil"😉. Interestingly someone who fails to spread evil cannot be declared good.
- we have a rough idea what light is, what heat is, but what is "Good"?
- the professor was not using science in his arguements as much as philosophy, the christain tried to use scientific concepts while suceeding only in misrepresenting them.

yeah dj2becker, this story sucks. are you trying to pass a ficticious story about a fictional debate with fictional characters which is clearly designed to make the atheist (gasp!) professor look stupid and the Christian strudent look smart-- are you seriously trying to pass this off as a legitimate argument how Christian "logic" defeats Science!? No wonder you picked fiction for the genre.

besides being outright propoganda, it's scarce facts are incorrect. for example: you CAN observe evolution. And: why is evil the absence of good? just because you say it is? why isn't good the absence of evil?

maybe we should write another story about a Christian who tried to convert others using disinformation and propaganda and the heroic atheists laughed at him- hahaha... that would be funny.
