A church is only considered a non-profit organization if it files as such. It is called a 501(c)(3) organization. If a church does not file for tax-exempt status, then it can politicize all it wants. I don't know if Rick Warren's church is a 501(c)(3) church or not, but I'm almost sure that it is.
