Speaking of irony, we are led to believe by those who embrace socialism that people are really "good" at heart, but for some reason they support a system that supposedly forces people to redistribute their wealth because they won't do it properly on their own because they are too greedy.

Actually I would argue that the development of free software and utilities is motivated by the (lead) developer's intention to solve (for him/herself) a problem that is not comfortably solved by anything currently available at a price he/she is willing to pay. After said solution is developed the developer shares it with the rest of us often in the hope that it will be improved by others with a similar interest in it. Much as I am grateful for what they have made available to me (and I hope to give something back myself soon - it isn't git-worthy yet though) their motivation is more self-serving than you give credit for.

Yes perhaps I do, but the concept appears to me to be like a sacrifice in chess, you give something up knowing that the return will be greater in some other form or value not necessarily material, in the instance of open source software greater collaboration and a pool of expertise leading to greater innovation etc

Now while we can argue over the degree of altruism involved, sharing in this way has been of greater benefit and I would say a more powerful motivational force than those systems which are closed and purely commercial.

Oh, rrrrrrrrrrrrrealy? How fascinating, Woody*! Does this include everybody who "embraces" socialism or did you conclude this on the basis of what Robbie said?

Please, elaborate, and when you do, be sure to use the words Hitler, nazis, progressives, Obama, I-don't-vote-republic-or-democratic-because-I'm-Whodey-and-I-know-the-truth, founding fathers and abortion. Looking forward to it!

No, I rrrrrrrrrrrreally wanted to know what you based your conclusion on, whether you could form a grammatically coherent sentence using those words (I know you can, buddy!) and how to pronounce your screenname.

Seriously, is it "o" as in Wood, or "o" as in Flow?

People are. Yes, people. Not corporations. Or the rich.

Do you forget Matthew 19:23-24 or Mark 10:23-25?

Why do you think Jesus said that?

It is pronounced "Who" "Dey".

Got it?

It is from American football, which is why you don't understand.

The team is called the Cincinnati Bengals. The term is used to mean this, "Who are they or (Whodey) think can beat them Bengals? The Bengals are an NFL franchize that used to be well run, making two close wins in a Super Bowl which is when the term "whodey" was coined. However, they were taken over by an incompotent and subsequently became the laughing stock, not just of the NFL, but all of professional sports. Now the Bengals have the longest absence of a playoff win in the play offs in the entire NFL.

They have been doing well of late, compared to their horrible track record since their owner Paul Brown died in 1990, but they are still regarded as a horrible organization.

The Bengals are rather symbolic for the way I view world politics. We are all rooting for our government, but they are run by greedy incompotents who's only interest is fleecing us while trying to keep "hope alive" at the same time.

I stopped drinking the "Whodey" coolaide long ago, much like I've stopped drinking the political coolaide they try to force feed us every year. Those that still drink the coolaide are rather amusing to me. That includes Bengal fans as well as partisan hacks.

Thanks. Gonna have to get used to pronouncing it like that in my head.

Now, this "coolaide" thing... what's that all about? I see it popping up in the debates forum from time to time. What's the reference?

Well when I work 4 hrs. A day at $36.

-4 for gas = 20 miles there and back. Mustang 15 miles to the gallon.
-6 to give away
- .22% of tax and tithe
-2 for soda and snack.

I would only make $16 a day.

1040 hrs. X $4 is $347 a month, my rent is $500. And plus my tithe money goes to my church so technically I am helping the poor with food once a month when the church gives away bags of food.

But surely god would recompense you if these charitable deeds left you in hardship? Or does that stretch your faith a little too far?
