People are here for 3 main reasons:

1. To play chess.

2. Just to enjoy the forums and play the odd chess game.

3. To fill in time, and perhaps make a few new friends.

It is obvious that those who don't re-new their subs are more interested in the forums, or just can't afford the sub.

This brings up another question. If people that do not re-new their subscriptions & are just here for the forums, and are also allowed to Alert posts. Why bother to re-new? There seems to be no incentive from where I sit to do so.

Who said anything about granting recommendations?

This is about alerts.

Read the thread, don't just react.

You know me of old, as most oldies do.

I am here to play chess, in response to point 1.

In response to point 2, we all know we enjoy the fora 😉

In response to point 3, I find a few assumptions. For 1, it is very difficult for me to renew my sub from Thailand. My credit card is no longer British, and certain internet usage is banned in Thailand, namley anything that remotely resembles the word 'porn', or could possibly involve gambling. Gambling is a complete NO NO in Th.

Renewing is for number of games we can play, isn't it?? re point number 1!

The incentive is to be a member and TEAM player of a community, isn't it?

I will re-sub when I find A SAFE way of sending a cheque via post, or a way of getting via the Thai internet noobs who block anything.

Does this add any enlightenment to my previous post?????

I did mean 'Alert' not rec...I was thinking at the time, that will be next.

All I am saying is the more privilages that is given to the non-sub the less incentive to re-subscribe. Of course it is not taking any money out of my pockets. Just doesn't make good business sense to me.

What about money orders? Do they have those there?

There are always special circumstances, I know.

As I have said, it takes no money out of my pockets.

I do know that the more that is given the less incentive for re-subscribing, and as you always tell me, I am not all that bright! 😉

I understand you probably brain farted Rec for Alert.

Now I ask you. Is feedback the best way to deal with forum issues? I know it's not.

Would you prefer a user who can't alert an insult get into a trade of insults?

Wouldn't you want all alerts to be handled the same way by all, rather than Non-subs needing to PM a mod (using up 1 of their 10 per day) or site feedback on the forum topic?

The admins have been very busy of late updating a LOT of things, mods are here for them to deal with forums. The more feedback on forum topics the admins need to field cuts into that time, and often mods are not around enough to read forums as they go.

Just give it some thought, I've given a lot of level-headed views on the subject and even bent my view to fit other's who participated in this thread.

IF you are still of a view that non-subs should never have the ability to alert... please give a few good reasons. Be sure they outweigh the burden of admins fielding feedback on forums they seldom visit, and PM messages to individual mods, and the non-subs that don't even know who's moderating these forums.

There's 1 post office. Money orders? Mai khao jai! Tuk wan pom payayam patanna pasa Thai dee gua. They don't quite have the equivalent here, yet.

That's my problem, not that of RHP, CLEARLY. I must find a way around it.

That doesn't alter what Phlabs and CFT are both making good points about.

'Special needs' in my case, or as Darvs would say, " a complete twIt".

e.g.

I'm not allowed to alert the usage of the word twat by one user to another in the GF. Albeit, I know both users, and understand it is in jest, possibly. However, it is clear in site terms and rules that to even call another member 'an idiot' is contrary to a section of rules. If I am called the the same, by said member, then I let it run and go...... because, as Phlabs sees, I have the maturity to see beyond the bickering.

However, what was posted, if it was posted to a new member or relatively new member, could be taken incredibly seriously, and become upsetting. Where do you CFT step in on this boundary abuse, if it is perceived as such??????

There are always 2 sides to each argument. I see neither side, yet, engaging CONSTRUCTIVELY to see a sensical SOULTION to a good proposition.

The alert system, as it operates here, should be abolished altogether and replaced with MODS WITH BALLZ.

I understand alerts are good for feedback and what not but waiting until there are alerts to actually do anything about a post, thread, user, etc is ridiculous.
