(a) Very heavy

(c) Too big to go in the lift
(d) Too big to go up the stairs
(e) Very fragile
(f) Time constrained i.e. must be delivered quickly or something will happen to it, e.g. it's an ice-sculpture and will melt.

Oops. For some reason page 21 wasn't shown at the top of the thread and I missed the questions posed on it, so ignore my snarky opening remark. That's what I get for trying to be clever.
Has it occurred to you that no one is attempting to discover what the object the men have is?

Is the object a piece of furniture?
Is the object intended for use inside the apartment the men are delivering it to?
Is the object perishable?
Is the object edible?
Is the object alive?
Is the object inanimate?
Is the object man-made?
Is the object supernatural?
Is the object fictional?

Questions about the men:
Are the men physically obstructed from reaching the appropriate apartment?
Are the men prevented from reaching the apartment due to some social convention (such as a taboo)?
Is the appropriate apartment quarantined for some reason?
Did the men know they would encounter this difficulty before arriving in the building?
In the original wording of the question the men are described as swearing after they knock on the doors.
Does this mean they are uttering profanities?
Does it mean they are making some sort of promise or vow?
Do the men skip the other doors by their own choice?
Do the men want to knock on the other apartment doors?
Are the men able to knock on the other apartment doors?
Is the door of the appropriate apartment a "second door"?

And last:
Is the time period in which the question takes place relevant to the answer?

Are the men knocking on every second door as these door lead to appartments all one one side of a building?
If so, is said object outside that side of the building?

Maybe Dan will be kind enough to PM us the answer since the new questioners seem to be going back over the same old stuff again....

Well, that explains almost nothing....

(By the way, most apartment buildings have elevators big enough to accomodate most - if not all - couches.)

Yea my take on that is "Hey at least we know what they've got. Now why the hell are they only knocking on half these doors?"
