Was the suicide prompted by an ingredient of the soup?

"One of them dies in the back story" is a good clue.
It sounds similar to one of the "complicated" conundrums I've heard.
Were the 3 people in the story at some time in the past stranded in a remote location?

A man was in a diner, and he ordererd Albatraz soup.

After 2 or 3 sips, he quietly walked out the door and hanged himself.

And then you tell us the soup is irrelevant, the number of sips is irrelevant,
the way he kills himself is irrelevant ...
Not much to go on is there?

Here is my teaser: A person dies. How? I'll only answer yes, no or irrelevant.

Did the person who died in the backstory die of natural causes?

Are you certain that nothing in the soup contributed to the hanging?

Does the murder victim have some connection, direct or indirect, with the albatross soup?

Great.I got a yes but I 'll probably need some help from others to get to the solution.
Here's how far I think I've got:-
Let's call the 3 people sailors.
They find or steal some treasure on their travel possibly some gold dubloons. This is the shareholder part of the story.
Unfortunately they then get shipwrecked soon after.
They divide up the treasure whilst slowly starving to death ,but they manage to trap a wandering Albatross and make Albatross soup.
This doesn't last long and so they resort to cannibalism to survive.
They draw lots for who to eat first and one unfortunate soul draws the short straw and so is murdered for food.
Soon after the remaining 2 sailors are rescued.
This is as far as I've got, (but not on my own as it's similar to a conundrum I heard years ago as stated above).
If Andrew can confirm I am essentially correct so far then can anyone else see a progression while I continue thinking about it?

Aha, cannibalism! Yes!

Try this one for size: The albatross soup in the diner prompted the first sailor (Sailor A) to commit suicide. Cannibalism occurred at the remote location (desert island?) when Sailor B killed Sailor C (we've established he was a murder victim) without Sailor A's knowledge, and then cut up the corpse to make "albatross" soup. Sailor A lost his mind when he realized (after discovering the actual taste of albatross soup) that he had eaten one of his shipmates.
