I scored 1689. I think half the problems I didn't answer in time. I hope they will let me play in the under 1700 at the next million dollar tournament in Vegas!
It was interesting though that many of the puzzles were not tactical problems but thematic ones. I saw one QGD minority attack problem which either you know or you don't.
When I first started playing online chess (many years ago) I can remember wanting to compare my skills with "offical" otb ratings. I would get ranges between 1200 and 2200. When I finally went out there my first rating was about 1725 ish but what I really learned is how grueling a 4 hour + game is versus playing 5 min blitz.
In Greenpawn fashion no post should go without a chess position.
My first otb win. My opponent had played a by the book Smith Morra - just missed a devastating tactic - gets crazy and sacs a piece to create a messy chance but he forgot in his heady sense of impending victory one idea.
After fxe6 Qxe6
0-0-0 and everything holds together. A simple oversight. Looking back, it's really notable how many games I won in that bucket finding good defensive moves in bad positions. When you are in the those waters you can walk in, sit down and play any opening - I can remember saying hmm how does a Sicilian go? c5 it is.. and proceeded to lose one game to a Snyder Sicilian and won a Dragon vs a 1500 who later became a FM.

1789, but I had 3 questions where I didn't even give an answer in time.... never particularly liked blitz, personally.
I don't think it is very reliable. Maybe in comparison to others results but not in comparison to a real otb rating.
Originally posted by iChopWoodForFreeTo be honest, mine sounds about right for OTB chess, certain tactics and patterns I can spot straight away, but I remember there were positions in the test where I was just looking at them and thinking "I have absolutely no idea what I'm meant to be looking for"

Perhaps we would have a better idea of knowing what to do if we had actually played the game through, rather than just being shown a position?
I also had been drinking for 6 hours beforehand lol, excuses excuses eh?

Based on your move choices, our estimate of your Elo rating is 2083, with a 95% confidence interval of [1903...2263].
5% of these things are just dead wrong... I'm a 5%er Cos i suck at chess.
Most of the problems were tactical... The rest were easy endgame tricks beginner captures and nobrainer pawn pushes. Crap test.
