Hi,

I just got a new chess set. Thei pieces are metal... "gold/bronze-ish" and "silver/grey-ish".

Which color equates to white and which to black? It's hard to say which is "lighter" than the other.

This will be up to you. The 'colour' in these cases will be determined by which set goes first, and the orientation on the board (whites a1 rook is on a dark square and the short (kingside) castle should be to the right.
ie it is the board set up, not the colour that determines who is white and black in these cases.
