I was the same when I first joined. I was told all kinds of players were cheating.
Nah!
I just could not see why a good player would need to use a box.
Perhaps I did not want to believe it.
And I was 99% sure I could spot a box in use just by looking at a game.
(I was wanting to see that good box v good box game to see they played
some 100% box moves. There are such things.)
And I really honestly believed that the users were a harmless handful.
Blokes having a laugh. See who could last the longest, get the highest grade
before getting caught etc.
"But why?" was my response when I was told the place was full of them.
(why pay money to join a site just have a computer play your chess for you...) 😕

Jan 09 sticks out because there were loads of PM's flying about then
that the mods had finally advised the admin that Big Ron be banned.
No1 (and Skeets) have nailed more cheats on here than all non-mods
put together but at the end of the day all they can really do is raise an FTP.
(I don't know, was No1. ever a mod on here?)
The graft and real work is done by a mod. And gathering the evidence takes time.
what is it? 20+ games with more than 20 non theory moves v good opposition.

There is no doubt the name of Big Ron and his pedigree stalled things.
We still do not know for sure why he was banned. The owners waited for
over just 100 days after his last move before banning him. I don't know
if that had any bearing on the matter.
Maybe they did not want to admit No1 was right all those years ago. 🙂
Anyway we both agree he should have gone. I just tried to offer an explanation,
right or wrong, why the delay. It's a messy and sad business.
I presume skeeter has had too much wine to drink and created this post Thread 141899 To the peolpe who claim that skeeter is a "woman" or a "she", that is most unladylike. A "skeeter" is a diminutive nickname for Scott, so "skeeter" could be a bloke hiding behind that username.
