Hi V

I was looking at this line.

Okay. I see now. From now on, I'll try harder to see these lines, so you don't have to spell things like this out. This is twice now that you've helped me, and I massively appreciate it. But I'll get off my training wheels now, and really think those through.

Thanks GP.

Hi V

Always ask if unsure. You may be right.
There is a few things in that game that I skipped, as always more interested in
what was played and what they were thinking.
Wanted to show the breathless Queen and her role in the game
instead of hacking it to bits. Like to keep it simple.

Thanks, that's encouraging. I'm still going to make sure I check long and hard before asking you.

Well think about this one V.

Not a trick question.

We have seen a Queen running all over the place and saving the day.
(OK White missed a shot - but it was a plausible try).

What is the one thing a Queen cannot do on a chessboard
that every other chess piece can.

A Pawn, a King, A Rook, a Bishop and a Knight can do it.
But a Queen cannot.

Genuine answer, not a trick question.

For V only.

I've been thinking about this for about half-hour, and feel kinda dumb. But I guess it's--as you've said earlier--unable to defend?

Since I am not a master I would say
a Queen can't deliver a discovered check, since she can't shield the enemy King from any attack by her own team.

1. Qxh7 Qe5+ 2. Be3 Qxg7 {Hmmm.... I could things with that WHite position as well. Queens off and run that h-pawn, maybe...Like castles as was played in the game better.}[/pgn]
I think I found another way White could win in the game on your blog that you have posted the following position that vivify asked about. Continuing from move 14 below:
