Ah right, yeah that was a good one too. 😀

I saw it right after, in fact, if I remember correctly I didn't analyze the positions for more than 1 or 2 moves after.

Happened to me at first too. In fact I dropped the Dragon after starting it, but after a little convincing from !~Tony~! I've picked it back up and feel more confident with it.

I was expecting something like Rxg8 without much trouble. Rg6+ just came like a bombshell.

Yes, The Najdorf is more complicated than the Dragon, I have memarized quite a bit of theory on it now just through sheer number of games played with it, both white and black. The Najdorf has to be adapted so much more to fit white's repsonse on every move maybe up to 15-20 moves. There are just so many nasty traps and bad positions that black can be ...[text shortened]... ld be familiar with all and their many following wde range of lines before playing the 5...a6
I'm sorry, but the Dragon is more theoretical than the Najdorf, Smaug. For one you have to deal with as many or more variations IMO. For example 9.Bc4 and 9.O-O-O, this is assuming white chooses the Yugoslav over the Be2 Classical, the Bc4 Classical, the Fianchetto Variation, or the 6.f4 variation, all of which are currently scoring better for white than the 6.Bg5 in the Najdorf. The Mainline isn't reached until about move 15, and there are a lot of solid variations that white can play before than. If white plays 9.O-O-O white can choose to keep central pressure or take the pawn after 9....d5, with plenty of variations after that. And a small misstep by either side often leads to a huge deficit.

I'll be frank, I do prefer playing white in the Dragon, and I love playing white in the Najdorf too...

where I go with 6. Bc4...

always open sicilian...

I DO enjoy playing the Sicilian Dragon as black, but score better with the Accelerated Dragon.

basically:
1. e4

1. ...e5 2. f4 King's Gambit
...c5 2. Nf3 inviting open sicilians
...e6 2. d3 King's Indian Attack
...c6 2. d3 King's Indian Attack
...Nf6 respond with 4 pawns attack
...d5 2. d4 Blackmar Diemer Gambit, Black could play 2. ...e6 or 2. ...c6 and reach the French or CaroKann when I can't use the King's Indian Attack, but if they wanted to play those they would've just played 1. ...e6 or c6

back on topic... I'd say c5 vs e4...because open sicilians are fun!

It's the first opening I ever cared for and loved (In other words, I've always used it...)

I tried out the Sicilian, aiming to steer for a Najdorf when possible, but wasn't happy with it. I'm going back to my roots with the Caro-Kann. It is very solid and reliable, and fits well with a Slav vs. d4, so you can maximize your study time. I know that it does not sit well with many people here, and may not be optimal for correspondence chess, but it works fine OTB and that is why I play here, to improve OTB.

I laugh at the people struggling with the KG! Try Darkguy's Counterattack:

Game 2684895

Note: In progress.
