I don't play 1 d4 2 c4 as White, but I sometimes play the KID as Black and the move I least like to see is 5 f3 (the Saemisch variation).
I used to joke that the reason Fischer gave up chess was because the Saemisch Variation took all of the fun out of playing his beloved King's Indian Defense.

and in this case, a fianchetto is also considered good
g3 is what I'd probably play, but in practice, for whatever reason, the KID is not one I come across that much. usually its QGD, QGA, or nimzo-Indian. I personally play Nimzo against 1. d4 whenever I'm black.

That's an excellent plan if White castles kingside, but in many variations of the Saemisch White castles long. And White may delay his decision for a bit, so finding constructive moves for Black when he doens't know where White's king is going to live is a challange.
