When someone's post is addressed to you, it is appropriate for a "reply" to use second person. Using third person (for example, the person's name) comes across as a ploy to try to make your post appear more credible.

Divegeester's posts were deleted even before I could read them, which is a hopeful sign.

You suggested that I should become aware of the trolling at other forums. To verify what you're saying would entail my spending hours if not days reading a bunch of revolting content. Moreover, what about the person's activities at other websites or in real life? It's impossible (except perhaps for intelligence agencies) to thoroughly collect a person's words and deeds.

My approach is to treat the posts at Only Chess on their merits. If a poster is civil to me, I'm civil in return.

Moderating has always been an issue on this site. The abuse and harassment is better than it used to be, but D continues to urinate on people. I do not see that changing.

I stand corrected regarding Divegeester's posts not having been deleted. But to me, a post's consisting of nothing but an alleged "quote" is already a strong indication of its being a troll.

"A problem is, however, that some (actually, many) writers are extremely dishonest about their records."

If I want to form an opinion about a writer's record, I first read what the person has written. When I said that I evaluate a post on its merits, I was referring to matters germane to the thread itself or that cite material that can be readily looked up (such as other Only Chess threads). To the extent that a post refers to material that I haven't read, I tend to reserve judgement.

"And you may be gullible enough to buy it."

You might consider reserving judgement regarding people whom you hardly know.
