Out of interest, I remember reading some time ago that you lose the diagonals first if drinking and trying to play chess - anybody ever tried to figure out how beer effected their chess playing ?

I drink beer, I play chess.

I don't drink beer, I play chess.

Ergo drinking beer doesn't not affect me playing chess.

Does playing chess affect your beer drinking?

The more important question, is which types of liquor affect your game the most. Maybe beer affects the bishops, and rum makes you sloppy with your rooks ;o)

Beer and chess is an awesome combination, it gives you the belief confidence and brilliant analytic thought of a GM without any of the training and allows you to slaughter your opponent yet not remember the next day that actually you fell in 6 moves. Win win I say..

Chess and beer where made for each other, I strongly believe that after about a beer and a 1/2 I am a better chess player!

after talking with a few people and doing some science test, i conclude that doing drugs with chess adds 200-7,000 points to your rating.. most people falling in the 250 range 🙂

With too many beers, then I don't notice it either.

I did once play a friend after a couple of bottles of wine... we had talked about playing for ages, but never got around to it.

I immediately hung a bishop (which he took) - and then I apparently dissappeared off inside my head and started concentrating - and took him to the cleaners.

I seem to remember from the days of Sensible Soccer and Kick Off that you could actually sober up by playing certain video games that required brain power.
