On the stage.
Right or left to the frontman?

Bass playing frontpeople will be shaking their heads at both your presumptuousness regarding the leadership qualities of bass players and your careless use of gender specific labels.

Bass players are kind of flakey, so if they show up at all then:

Stage right and have the drummer offset to the left.

I'm thinking the other side of the stage from the keyboardist (if there is one), who is normally on the right, although I see no reason why this can't be switched up.

Also, the drummer is best in center back.

Actually, the drummer is best on the tour bus after a couple lines of coke. Way in the back, last seat, to better get the vibration from the road.

Better? 😀

Exactly what difference does it make where he stands? My only observation is he or she might be a virtuoso on bass and SHOULD get front billing sometimes.
If they just go blub blub blub they should be in the back.

If he was a proper rock n rol bass guitarist he would not be stood at all. He would at least be half slouching if not totally wasted on the deck.

Rock on!

The drums give the bassist something to lean on, or fall into, which is pretty cool.

Man I'm not getting stuff tonight. I'm listening to 'All Along The Watchtower' performed by Jimi Hndrix and going to bed methinks, before I tread on anyone else's toes.

Dude, this song does it for me.

I thought it might have something to do with "importance ranking" in a band...
By the rule, bass section or at least bass guitarists are newer members or just hird for the tour, or if the core of the bande wants to emphasize their place in the history of band etc.

Usually bass and rhythm guitars are in the shadow, and the drummer if he/she is hired and did not take part in recording.
