Your metaphorical talk of park benches was about alerts and not thumbs, was it not? That's why I said: No one has "removed the park benches from this public park" in this matter.

On the different matter of thumbs:

Do I want to eliminate them? Probably. I see this cranny of social media as something superior to the inanity of anonymous likes and dislikes @ TikTok and Instagram. If making thumbs non-anonymous reduced the infantile use of thumbs, then it'd be OK I suppose.

As I've always said everyone is entitled to their opinion. It doesn't make you correct about the function would be a blight on the website. Removing it would remove all the bad posts you've put up. You should have left the Alerts alone. That is what happens when you play with fire, sometimes you get burned in the process.
