I'm so tired of raising teenagers.
They're moody, lazy, selfish, sulky, self indulgent, single minded, self obsessed, dirty, messy, rude.....and then their mood swings & they're helpful, chatty, sweet, thoughtful, washing, tidying and complaining about their siblings who are grumpy as if they have no memory of the mood they had just an hour earlier.

I'm so glad I was never a teenager.

Parents don't raise teenagers. It's the parents who grow up during that process. The teenagers grow up later, when they have kids of their own.

Moonbus,
That could very well be the most accurate statement I've seen you make on here. You did it in only three sentences too. 😉

Dive,
Did you ever have any teenagers. It certainly is a growing experience for anyone. You don't get a handbook, can't believe half of what is in the books that are out.

It's extremely tough to raise teenagers. The trick is to let the teenagers raise you.

Do you really think so?
Honestly I'm pretty sure I am grown up already!
Mind you, feels like I'm not raising them in the same way as I did when they were smaller. We negotiate now, I explain just as much but the finality of my decisions is a little greyer and the consequences are harder to enforce but I still *feel* like I'm the adult parenting the children.... Am I deluded? Maybe this is what makes the jib such hard work?

Teenagers are a problem IF AND ONLY IF the parent is a true
and utter incompetent. I bet you have given the teenager everything he
or she wants, and the useless piece of hormones has never worked
for anything. Hell, here's $5 on you always trying to be a "cool pal" to
the teen instead of a true authority.

Be a freakin' parent. Talk to them with authority. Read them the rules.
Make them work for any luxuries they want, with a real job, and
through real chores at home in exchange for all the free stuff they get.
And slap them if they are disrespectful in the slightest.

But since you're here on a chess forum whining about it, I bet you
already failed as a parent. Congratulations, you have spawned the
next Kim Kardashian or Jeffrey Dhamer. Just what the world needed.

I see I forgot to clarify. When slapping, slap the face and not elsewhere.

Enforcing consequences? Are you a parent or a policeman?

If a parent doesn't enforce consequences, the the police are more likely to be enforcing consequences later on.

Don't waste time telling them to tidy their rooms or cleaning it yourself.
Keep their door shut. Pretend it does not exist.
