Shaping others' musical tastes.

Have you done much of it ~ whether it be deliberately or inadvertently? If so, have the beneficiaries ever mentioned it to you at some later point in time?

Has it happened much with your own children?

Have your children managed to influence or alter your musical taste?

Are there key people who've shaped your taste to any significant/lasting degree? If so, do they know?

...or any other questions regarding musical tastes that you care to pose or address.

i didn't do it, but, the fact that i had the cds lying around sure influenced my son...
he was 14 or 16 or so, and he asked if he could borrow my dark side of the moon...
this was in the mid 90's...
i asked why, because i had seen how he treated his own cds...
"because i was told that if you start that album just as the lion roars in the wizard of oz movie, the music follows the script exactly"...
since i had heard this urban legend as far back as the late 70's, i acquiesced...
turns out it's pretty close...
but,
the strangest thing occurred, he had never heard the album before, and like me in 73, he was hooked...
he wanted to know what other bands i liked to listen too...
i started him off with "let it be", moved to "who's next", and then "beggars banquet"...
he still likes hip hop and some artists that i would not employ to dig ditches or plant flowers, but, that's his taste...
he knows rock n roll, nearly like i do...

does this count???

As a childless man, no minor has been damaged by my musical tastes.

In fact I might be responsible for my sons to have visited Kraftwerk concerts...

that may be considered cruelty in some jurisdictions

I took my daughter to an Osmonds concert in Boston once.

There was a kind old gentleman dispensing candy to the youngsters from the back of his rusty old van.

You don't see that sort of generosity very often.

Many years ago, around the same period of time 3 people had a musical influence on me:-

A then close friend and flat-mate introduced me to Led Zeppelin, a girlfriend took me to Wembley Arena to see Duran Duran, and another friend playing Hawkwind in his Ford Capri as 3 of us crashed in it stoned overnight at Glastonbury tor.

Three very different memories but all music that has stayed with over the years.

I heard One Direction played 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' once during
a concert. Or was it 'Beautiful People'? Can't think straight with
Justin's melodies playing so loud here.
