@wolfgang59 saidAre you the wolfy that has been renamed 'Pious Pouter'?
Funny how it is always you "reading something in" isn't it?
Repeatedly doing it and mis-representing people.
You have been much worse since retiring.
Get a hobby and stop sulking over NZ not letting you in.

@wolfgang59 saidIf you say that you weren’t making an ad hominem attack on “Pamela Anderson” in an effort to discredit what she was saying I’m sure some people here will believe you.

@divegeester saidJust for the record I agree with what she was saying,

so an ad hominem attack would be rather silly.
Ad as someone pointed out she is a French resident
so entitled to her opinion. I do think she is naïve in
the belief that more democracy will somehow reverse
Brexit though.
But my incredulity was the fact that an actresses opinion
should be on the BBC news.
What do we have politicians for?

@wolfgang59 saidThat is a good point, because Brexit has been going for years now!!! Still not settled either.
What do we have politicians for?

@wolfgang59 saidI beg to differ Wolfie. Your claim here doesn't ring true, or if it is true then you are being uncharacteristically unclear in your posting. Here’s what you said:

”Pamela Anderson ... calls for a more democratic Europe.”
[link to BBC news]
“You can't make this stuff up!”
That you posted her name as the title indicates quite clearly that the focus is the celebrity NOT the BBC. Your subsequent comment “you can’t make this up” is obviously expressing incredulity at her opinion on the EU.
Furthermore you have been an ardent defender of the EU in every single post we have exchanged in the last three years, expressing your disdain for Brexit and supporting the EU’s European project without faltering. And yet now, in this thread, you are suddenly claiming that:
1) the EU needs to be more democratic (my resolute stance for the last three years posting here)
2) you agree with Pamela Anderson when she broadcasts her opinion that the EU needs to be more democratic
3) despite you (an ardent expat Remainer) suddenly and surprisingly holding the same view as me (an ardent Brexiter) regarding the democratic leaning of the EU, you now claim that your expression “you couldn’t make this up” was aimed at the BBC for posting a link to a celebrity espousing an opinion. A celebrity who’s opinion you apparently agree with.
Just post with principle and honesty old chap and stop worrying about what I’m doing in my spare time.
@divegeester saidI don't know why I post, or why others post, when you can read minds.

(Albeit wrongly)
However.
1. The thread title was to get attention - what would you suggest it should have been?
(Bearing in mind this is the GENERAL forum and NOT DEBATES?
I would not call myself an ardent defender of the EU but it may well look like that juxtaposed against some Brexiteers.
2. I have (some time ago - even before Brexit) been in favour of a
more powerful European Parliament, one with the power to make
laws rather than just rubber-stamp (or not) laws proposed by
unelected Commissioners. That would be more democratic.
Note: I am not saying that the EU is undemocratic.
(You may have noticed you have an election coming up soon?)
3. I am a passionate REMAINER. That does not mean I think the EU is perfect.
4. Talking of principles -
PLEASE CEASE YOUR CHILDISHNESS OF MISREPRESENTING PEOPLE
@wolfgang59 saidThe irony of you posting that in this thread!
PLEASE CEASE YOUR CHILDISHNESS OF MISREPRESENTING PEOPLE
@wolfgang59 saidI think I’ve made a robust case for why I made my first post in this thread, other readers can decide for themselves.
I don't know why I post, or why others post, when you can read minds.
Post script:
I am delighted to have learned that my esteemed fellow poster @Wolfgang59 is a firm believer that the EU is not sufficiently democratic.
@divegeester saidAgain: misrepresentation.

@wolfgang59 saidSo despite you subsequently claiming “for the record” as you said, that you agree with what Pamela was saying in her video blog... in fact don’t agree with her claim that the EU needs to be more democratic?
Again: misrepresentation.

@divegeester saidHere let me break the silence...when she, Pam, was on Baywatch, I watched but only to get some tips on what exactly was involved in being a lifeguard.
A convenient silence descended.
