Some movies can be good in the wider general sense, but still highly overrated in our personal opinions. Others are patently below average or even flawed. One such movie for me is Interstellar.

I watched it for the second time yesterday (previously a few years ago) and I don’t know if it’s even a ‘good’ movie, let alone some sort of masterpiece which some people seem to think. I really tried to get into it this time, I rewound a couple of scenes and listened intently to the muffled deadpan dialogue which was drab and unengaging. For me it’s an awful watch due to its lack of coherent astro-science, unbelievable ridiculous plot and it’s patched together screenplay. The Kit-Kat AI robots are laughable late 70s throwbacks which would have looked out of place even in Disney’s cheesy ‘The Black Hole’.

I did like the time dilation ideas though, and the ticking clock effect during the big wave sequence was genuinely tension building; but then the protagonist (who I really didn’t connect with nor care about) escaped the planet, a team member went mental on another planet which was seemingly a tube-stop away from the first, he escapes that planet also and the falls into a supermassive black hole where he gets helped by some pan-dimensional mega-beings who connect him to a bookshelf in his daughters bedroom 30 years prior where he writes a special message to her in binary code using crop storm dust. Hmm.

Edit: oh yeah, then he wakes up a saviour hero on an off world cylindrical habitation where his now 90 odd year old daughter has made a special trip to visit him from earth, but she’s bedridden and dying with all her own family around her who has also presumably made the trip but only seem interested in her and not him as the hero. It’s all very dreamy, surreal and pseudo-spiritual.

Na … poorly conceived, poorly made utter nonsense.

now do Project Hail Mary

@diver

Every single Roger Moore James Bond movie was not only overrated they were absolute garbage.

All he ever did was pull one of those stupid facial expressions.

I watched that last week; a similar but better made flavour of contemporary Hollywood finger-licking silliness. A nice narrative on interspecies friendship though I suppose. Whatshisname makes a decent effort to act opposite a puppet made by school children.

The Bond franchise has been on life support since Connery.

Don’t Netflix own it now, or is it Amazon? Can you imagine how awful the next one will be LOL.

I know

Now that Netflix has the franchise Bond will probably be played by a non-white, sexually disfunctual, ..................

Actually NO; I just heard, Trimp wants to play the next James Bond.

@diver

There is a way to save the Bond franchise - cast Jason Statham as Bond!

The entire Marvel series of superhero movies are overrated. They are fun, but only just, and they take themselves so seriously. I watch one and then forget what happened with minutes.

The book is way, WAY better.

Weir takes his time explaining the science premise.

I couldn't even finish the movie.

I can't help but wonder if the book is better.

Matthew McConaughey is overrated.

You didn’t miss much; in fact you spared yourself the cringe of him becoming a teacher again, but now teaching alien Rocky species children in a classroom carved into a beach cave under a Trumanesque giant protective dome.

Overrated

Anything with "superheroes"

Anything with animation

Anything with voice overs and it's "famous people"

Transformers (it should have been made for adults)

Harry Potter sucks.

Avatar and the sequels

Anything woke and tarded.

Remakes are overrated.

Prodigies are overrated.

No, that wasn't in the book.

If you watch The Gentlemen with Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, Michelle Dockery you will see some great acting.

Daniel Craig introduced a new type of Bond far away from Ian Fleming's books - great transformation.

He did; Casino Royal deserved an award for its opening credits sequence, but his best outing was Skyfall I thought which was more of a “Bond” movie. I found the other ones a bit boring especially the last one which was overblown.
