Centralized Government vs. States Rights
Reasonable Americans might agree that a balance between the two serves us best.
But that requires compromise.
And lingering Civil War era philosophies regarding States Rights/Conservatism will allow for no such thing.
Conservatism has lost it's way...and it's kicking and screaming to remain relevant. Just like the myth of the vampire...right-wingers cannot bear exposure to the light of truth.

I was watching a comedy show from a year (or so) ago.
And in it one of the comedians was saying that of all the mad stuff Trump’s been doing, firing Comey is the icing on the crazy-cake...

God damn, in hindsight that seems perfectly normal.
I switch on the news this morning and this is it:
Pornstar “Stormy Daniels” sueing US president Trump who used campaign funds to buy her silence.
Holy FFing hell.
The US has come a long way, for that to appear like a normal, everyday, thing.
Making firing the FBI director... who found out about it on TV... who was leading an investigation into Trump’s illegal dealings with the Russians who were interfering with the US elections... fade into normality...
Damn.
