Is "soundbite democracy" in fact detrimental - perhaps even fatally so - to healthy deliberative and genuinely interactive democracy?

The world is a complex place and its very difficult to convey all the available information on any issue. Explaining the context, accuracy, probability and every other factor involved in a point of view is nigh on impossible and not even useful if you are trying to convince someone of your argument. So the simplification of your message can easily sully the vast and complex 'truth'.

Can ALL responses to this question, and ALL responses to other posters, please be in the form of SOUNDBITES, strictly no longer than TEN words?

Let's see what comes of it.

Of course it is. No system of government is perfect, but of course overall I think a Democracy is best.

In a dictatorship people grab for power by use of military coups, assassating the leader or other other methods.

In a democracy the opinions of the masses are the key to power so character assassination, lies and deliberate misleads because the rule of thumb.

The only way to offset the latter problem is for the people to be aware of this and to keep themselves well informed. Unfortunately in the US the people do a horrible job of that.

This is why I'm a huge fan of organizations like factcheck.org. They call out both sides on their BS.
