What is sad, is that this entire Republican slate of conservatives is the best they can do? Really?
This is the most significant political story in the United States in the last 50 years.
September 11th? Clinton's impeachment? Vietnam?[/b]Vietnam and 9/11 were not political stories.
The Clinton impeachment, which ended up doing little to hurt Clinton and mainly backfired and hurt the GOP, was not nearly as significant as would be Donald Trump being elected President and/or becoming the new standard bearer for the Republican party. How the Republican establishment deals with this phenomenon inside of its ranks is more significant than the partisan shouting match over Bill Clinton's dalliances.

So, no politics involved what-so-ever????
You yanks! You so funny!
That there are political aspects of the story doesn't make it a political story. A political story is one that primarily is about voting patterns and policy and platforms of the political parties.
9/11 and the Iraq war were not primarily about politics.

I personally think it just reflects america going back to normal after the Obama years.
There would be nothing "normal" about Donald Trump being elected President. Nobody in the history of the Republic has ever even been nominated for that position by a major political party who has never held an elected office or high governmental position.
Foreigners saying how "stupid" Americans supposedly are is a rather tiresome form of bigotry.

Many other modern democracies have (had) figures similar to Trump but the way in which American parties select their candidates is quite unusual - elsewhere the candidates are usually determined through internal politics. The American system allows a small but vocal minority (scumbag racists) to torpedo a certain party's interests, while the same group usually supports candidates from non-mainstream parties elsewhere, such as UKIP or the Front National.

I really don't accept the premise that the majority of Trump supporters are mere stupid "scumbag racists".
It's true the American primary system (which is a rather recent innovation - primaries were not a determining factor until the early 1970s) allows the actual members of the Party to select their Presidential candidate rather than having one selected by the party bosses. Personally I think that is an improvement, not a flaw.
