A conservative media watchdog organization finds it outrageous that Senator John Kerry recently called for censorship of the tea party movement.

The Media Research Center (MRC) says the Massachusetts Democrat took several swipes at conservatives, blaming the tea party for the nation's Standard & Poor downgrade, and he argued on MSNBC that the media should not give credence to the tea party's ideas.

"The media has got to begin to not give equal time or equal balance to an absolutely absurd notion," Kerry stated. "Just because somebody asserts it, or simply because somebody says something which everybody knows is not factual, it doesn't deserve the same credit as a legitimate idea about what you do."

But Dan Gainor, vice president for business and culture at the Culture and Media Institute of the MRC, says Kerry's comments are typical of a left-wing mindset.

"Basically, it is a totalitarian, dictatorial mindset that wants to silence any opposition," he suggests. "We warned people for years that the left wanted to have a return to the so-called 'Fairness Doctrine,' which we call the censorship doctrine. That's the kind of attitude that takes place in Cuba or the old Soviet Union."

The media should give whatever time it wants to whatever it wants. Senator John Kerry's getting all puffed up.

The scary thing is, he really believes this!
If your ideas, thoughts, positions are not coming from the progressive/liberal (both labels are misnomers btw) agenda they are "absurd", "not legitimate" and you should be censored.
Typical "liberal" mindset.

Fox is a very prominent outlet through which conservative viewpoints--often very conservative viewpoints--are displayed openly. Just because many (or most) people find those viewpoints distasteful, dangerous, or whatever doesn't mean they can't find an audience.

Most people find conservative viewpoints dangerous ?! Okay. I'm not gonna even bother touching that bit of lunacy you just regurgitated.

Now tell me again what is your point about a wiki link of FOX News when the OP is about John Kerry once again calling for censorship of opposing political view points.

Don't misrepresent me. Not all conservative viewpoints--certain ones, especially "very conservative" ones.

Each media outlet has its own biases in what stories it affords coverage and what stories it doesn't. Just because liberal-leaning and centrist-leaning media outlets don't provide that coverage doesn't mean Fox can't, shouldn't, or won't.

There is a difference between calling for forceful censorship and asking media not to give a particular group disproportionate access. He might have said it better, but to say he's calling for censorship is a little melodramatic.

let's try to substitute a straw man in the argument.

a group of nutcases have formed a political force of such sufficient magnitude that they are able to influence an election and the political process. they are advocating for economic actions that ultimately are harming the credit rating of the nation and potentially threaten economic disaster.

ordinarily, the political process works this situation out through communication. the political discourse expressed by economists and political leaders reveals the dangers and counter viewpoints prevail. ultimately the system works.

now, with this particular group of nutcases, the political process seems to have broken down for some reason. there are several approaches to this.

1. communicate better, more intelligently and more convincingly

2. do something else, none of which work in a free society, one with the constitutional freedom of the press

suggesting that the media act responsibly by ignoring the political nutcases is absurd. the media make their living by feeding off nutcases. just communicate better. that's all that can be done.

Okay, so the upshot of your point is that it's good to communicate better.

Got it.

Thanks for the insight.

That's a good description of the Obama administration.
