As part of the work for the upcoming new board interface, an audit was conducted of the set preferences, and some stood out as unused and will therefore be retired shortly as I can't justify the effort to retain them.

When these sets are removed, a suitable alternative will be assigned to each player.

@Ponderable saidI've used Newspaper since I started here.
I can change my settings if I am on very exotic choices, and if need be. (Though I assume that lots of people share my choice (Newspaper) 😉 )
It's clear and clean.
It is common in chess books, I guess we go with what we're used to.
@Russ saidMany years ago, there was a website called Stan's NetChess.
The original wood set is still popular with early joiners - even though it looks terrible! (wood legacy). Upscaled 44x44 images I created in 2001.
50 folks still use it. 🤷

@Russ
Hi there. I really dislike the new settings for pieces - but can't work out how to get back (I'm not a subscriber, which may mean I can't).

@Russ saidPhew. I like 'Book'...!
edit : "Book" is saved!
Happy you keep it. But I just had to re-select it as it apparently was changed by the system. And that is how I came here, for some investigation on what has happened.
(And I like Olive grove as background for the last 20 years, so keep that too please...)
@Russ -- It seems you have also removed the smiling emoji with the crooked teeth (which effect might have been resolution-dependent). Well, okay, but I liked that one. And of course, please don't reinstate it just for my sake.
I do appreciate the Emoji dropdown above the post-reply text box -- thank you for that!
