I am a perpetual Novice player always trying to learn. If you are ranked higher and I continue to play despite impending checkmate, it’s not me being an ass, but me learning from you. I may wait until most major pieces have been taken before resigning. I may actually see the path to checkmate and resign then. Feel free to do the same. Remember, Chess is a game of patience.
