The addition of Doug Fister to the Tigers' staff is going to be the key element to propelling them to a World Series victory. They're the hottest team in the AL over the last 30 games (20-10). Their recent crushing sweep of the White Sox and their defeat of the Indians yesterday puts us in the driver's seat. Go Tigers!

Unlike previous years, our late season additions are paying dividends:

Doug Fister: 4-1, 2.64 ERA
Delmon Young: .300 AVE, 3 HRs
Wilson Betemit: .290 AVE, 3 HRs

Now there are some reasons for the Yankees, Red Sox and Rangers to start shaking
in their boots...... 😕

Scoff if you will, but you'll be sorry in the end!

Edit: Adding Fister to the rotation is going to make us a legitimate post-season contender. We'll have Verlander, Fister and Scherzer at the top of the rotation. I'd put them up against anyone else's 1-2-3.

Edit 2: It's interesting that the top four teams in the AL for most runs scored per game are the Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers and Tigers, in that order.

In 2009, for example, we picked up Aubrey Huff and Jarrod Washburn for the stretch drive and neither payed off:

Aubrey Huff (.189 AVE, 2 HRs)
Jarrod Washburn (1-3, 7.88 ERA)

As a result we fizzled and finished one game behind the Twins. This year everything is clicking and we're the hottest team in the AL.

That bodes well for the worst run scoring team then...doesn't it???

Bet you would love to have Huff now though.

But, at least you can root for your team because they have a chance.

The only thing we can root for here is the #1 draft pick in next year's draft. 😞

Huff is terrible. A .241 AVE with 12 HRs? Maybe he'd find a place in the Twins roster, but not ours.

He would be 4th highest in HR's and 5th highest in RBI's on your ENTIRE team.
You may want to re-think discarding him like that.

A mediocre, washed up first baseman? No thanks. He might edge out Morneau, but he couldn't even edge out Ryan Strieby at Toledo in our system. The Giants are going to be mighty sorry they're paying him $10 million again next year.

Now we've taken five in a row from our nearest division rivals, the White Sox and the Indians. And we've done it in convincing fashion. Another rout tonight, 10-1 over the Indians. Our lead is up to 8.5 games.

Forget all those stats....get to the key stats:

Show me the stats between those 4 teams while playing each other.
THAT is where the truth is.

6-3 against Texas
4-3 against New York
1-5 against Boston
11-11 total

The games against New York and Boston, though, were all before we became the invincible super-team we are now. We just got done beating Cleveland 8-6 to complete the sweep of them. A grand slam for Martinez and Verlander got his 22nd win. That's sweeps against both Chicago and Cleveland to put us way out in front. During those six games we outscored our opponents 57 to 20.
