21 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 "thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.
23 "All these evil things come from within and defile a man."

I guess I see this as what can happen when man follows the self, but I it seems to fall short of saying that man is incapable of overcoming sin. However there a number of verses that seem to ask man to overcome sin nonetheless. Do you see this differently?
