Another work which comes into my mind is the first chapter of Tolkien's Silmarillion. That's an entirely different type of "religious fiction". It tells about the creation of Tolkien's fictional world. I just love the idea that the world was created by singing.

Has anyone mentioned CS Lewis? Personally I prefer Tolkein, the allegory is far more subtle in Tolkein AND you get battles

pretty good read of opinions on various religious topics..
Most likely though, you'll end up with a read that gives you diarrhoea,
makes you laugh till you go insane, feel sorrow and misery on some of
the childish comments you’ll find..
