In His own interpretation of His parable Jesus says that the seed represents the word of the kingdom.

"You therefore hear the parable of the one who sowed.

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away that which has been sown in his heart. This is the one sown beside the way." (v.18,19)

The stealing of the seed by the birds must represent the stealing of the word of the kingdom by evil spirits from the heart that is too close to the world.

He is too beside the way much traffic. The ground of his heart is made hard by too much worldly traffic.

In each of the four examples, the seed is the living word of the kingdom of the heavens shown into the heart.

I would say that only the first example represents the unbeliever. For only in the first example does the seed not take to growing at all.

But the parable is useful to anyone, in some regard if they are willing to let the word of the kingdom enter into their heart.

The IMPLANTED word is able to save our souls, our mind, emotion, and will. - our SOULS.

" Therefore putting away all filthiness and the abundance of malice, receive in meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls." (James 1:21)

That means to transform our souls.
That means His living word is able to conform us to the image of God's Firstborn Son.
