The MANTRA II study is wrong. Prayer has done powerful things and can still do powerful things. (I'll gladly pray for Angie. Keep us updated on what happens.)

Let's see:

1. You are genuinely concerned over the wife and don't want her to get her hopes up over something that wouldn't help her condition.

2. You're just stirring the pot without any concern, feeling or empathy.

I have a suspicion it's the latter. If so, would you rather keep your dim-witted opinions to yourself -- or start another thread. Have you no heart?

Hey, I'm sending postive ether in her direction as much as you are. However, it's not going to do any good.

Sometimes just giving hope (even though its scientific validity can be disputed) does much more than you can ever begin to expect or understand.

There is no way around it, hope and health go hand and hand. Those who are hopeless give way to depression and the mind becomes sick so to speak. Then the mind begins to work on your body and begin to make the likelyhood of the body to become sick as well. Your natural immunity and such are effected by such things. This is a scientific fact.

Now in terms of the supernatural there is speculation as to whether prayer does little more than give hope to the hopeless or at least in terms of science. In terms of the MANTRA study that was mentioned, it occurs to me that there are scriptures that says not to put God to the test. Perhaps such tests that try and validate the existence or nonexistence of God should be included in this warning and therefore should not be attempted and, in the end, will never be productive. All I know is that faith works as it has in my own life. There is no scientific formula or graph or statistics to look at, rather, there is only hope and supplication. In the end we are all hopeless. The only question is, is there hope for the hopeless? I say there is!

I would just like to share a scripture that has always helped my faith in times of trouble. Daniel 3:17 talks about 3 men who are about to be thrown into a furnace for not bowing to the gods of Nebuchadnezer.

"Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchandnezer, we are not careful to answer you in this matter. If it be so, our God WHOM WE SERVE IS ABLE to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. BUT IF NOT, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up."

And thats what it takes. Continue to serve your God no matter the circumstances before, during, or after the fact. Decide beforehand that you will stand in your faith, not just for her healing, but in your relationship with the Almighty as well. Do this even if the outcome is not what you may desire. Just remember that not all of Christs prayers were answered as well. He sweated great drops of blood as he prayed to the Father to deliver him from the cross but was denied. Despite this, however, we must continue to trust in God despite being dissappointed at times. We must trust that all things will work together for good according to his perfect plan for our lives. After all, where would we be today without the cross? To sum up, in the face of hopelessness, continue to hope despite detractors such as the ones you have already heard from on this site.

Edit: Here is another scripture for healing. Isaiah 53:5 says "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his STRIPES we are healed." So you see, God is concerned with our physical healing. It says that Christ already paid the price for our healing via the stripes he endured before going to the cross. The amazing thing about this scripture, however, is that he endured 39 stripes. By Jewish law no more than 40 stripes were allowed and so they made it a routine practice to only give 39 stripes so as to not violate the law by going over 40. It may only be a matter of coincidence but in 1965 a man by the name of Dr. C. Truman Davis from Arizona Medicine stated that the present day disease classifications can be broken down into 39 categories!! Coincidence? I think not. Hope this helps and God bless.

Thank you all for you kind words and prayers. I am emotionally moved by all of the response.May God continually bless everyone of you. For those of you who are the nay-sayers about prayer, may God bless you as well and reveal himself to you in a new and fresh way. At times, I questions God. Why does He let things like this happen or how can He let others die and others survive a certain tradegy? I don't have the answer to that. (Back in 1996, before I met my wife, I was engaged to marry someone else. She died in a car accident at the age of 18 yrs old.)But no matter what happens I will still believe in and follow our Awesome God.

Jerimiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Mark 11:24 NIV •
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Matthew 18:19 NIV •
"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.

Matthew 7:11 NIV •
"If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Joshua 24:15 NIV •
".... But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

Proverbs 27:17 NKJV
"As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend."

I have to admit, I didn't have these verses memorized. But I do remember the concepts or sayings.

I found them at:

www.ibs.org.

Thank you again everyone.

God Bless you all,
Rob

Hi everyone,
Angie and I went to the hospital yesterday for the operation.
It all went fine, but they decided to keep her overnight for observation. We are home now though.

The doctor took out the lump in her left breast. It was the size of a ping-pong ball and it was positve for cancer.

He also tested her lymph nodes in her left armpit. He removed 4 of them and 3 out of the 4 were negative. The last lymph node he wasn't sure 100%.

So, he will do more tests on it and let us know later in the week. We are not sure if Angie will have to go through Chemo or radiation therapy.

We will find out the results from the lymph node test next week.

We all need to come into agreement and believe that she doesn't and that the last lymph node is negative as well.

Thank you all for you support and prayers. [We feel them !! 🙂 ]
God bless you all and talk to you guys later.

Rob

Ps. If anyone has any prayer requests...please post them here. I will pray for you. Thanks again!!!!

James 5:13-15

The Prayer of Faith

13. Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.
14. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

How do you know faith works in your life if you don't have a control group?

I don't believe in the efficacy of intercessory prayer. However, I sincerely *hope* everything will work out for you and your wife.
