My point is this. Why would Pope John Paul II be up for saint, he was elected. What would make him so exceptional? Why him? What has he done that his "holding of office" not dictate?

Could you please explain it to me.

Could the crazy man on the corner condemning passers by, and screaming while reading from the bible...become a saint?

What about Jerry Folwel or Billy Grahm....could they be declaired saints?

You could start reading his books and encyclicals for a start.

Ok, I read through it.

Why should Pope John Paul II be sainted?

If and when JPII is canonised, it will be because the Church believes he practised heroic virtue, lived a life of fidelity to God and and can act as an example and intercessor to the people of the Church. (C.f. CCC 828).

These are not sufficient conditions for canonization. It must also be shown to the RCC's satisfaction that JPII performed miracles after his death.

The miracles are just proof that a saint can, indeed, intercede with God.

I'm not sure if miracles that do not ask for intercession count towards a canonization, but I can check.
