The first four gospels of the bible start out with Judas being an ok kind of guy to John where he is vilified. What is the reason for this change of character?

Without Judas christ would not have been crucified, so Judas was a necessity for the martydom of the Nazerine

But why was he vilified? Why make him into a scapegoat?

Not necessarily...I think Satan would have found another way.

Satan used Judas' weaknesses. Love for money, envy, etc.

Thats where the Gospel of Judas comes in. It was discovered about 30 years ago and almost destroyed but now deciphered and tells a totally differant story, that is to say, Jesus ORDERED Judas to betray him so he would be martyred. It puts the Judas story in a completely differant light. This gospel was vilifed 180 years later and was decided not be included in the bible because it weakens the attempt to distance the new religion from judaism because of the romans hatred of jews due to the jewish rebellion in the year 66AD. It tells the real story of Judas and not including it in the new bible made it much easier for anti-semitism to spread along with the new religion, since Jews are considered to have killed jesus in spite of the fact that the romans actually did it. If the gospel of judas was included there may have never been the pogroms of the middle ages or the holocaust of the 20th century.

You are speaking as if this discovery is the word of God and it is not.

Well that is a problem. NONE of the bible chapters are from god, only from men. So the gospel of judas has just as much validity as any of the ones in the bible. The Gnostic gospels were rejected beause they did not fit in with the pre-concieved notions of what a religion should be. The gospels of mark mathew luke and john were not even written by those people, it wasn't untill hundreds of years later those chapters were named as being written by those four now attributed.
