No, it does not make it clear if he ever returned to his Christian roots or not.

since he was brought up in a Christian home and seemed to have departed
from his Christian upbringing later in life, did he believe in Christ before he
died? As a Christian, his story becomes a sad one if he did not.

Yes I know he contributed much to our way of life now. But I was wondering
