After ten years of being a devout user of Dell PC's, I have decided to become a Mac user. I will be purchasing an iMac this weekend. Year after year, I have experienced degraded performance from my PCs, and they have left me with only one set of footprints in the virtual sand more times than I can count. I am anticipating that my conversion will bring me much spiritual renewal and fill an empty space that has been eating at me for a long time. Please pray for me.

RAM doesn't make a computer faster. (at least above 2 GB, even with Vista). If you want a faster computer, buy a new precessor ( E6750 is best price-performace for the average user) or use XP instead of Vista.
I have an AMD 3000+ 1GB RAM and it's quite fast for my everyday task. I use Linux, though.... But please post your computer configuration and what do you do with him (games, office, playing chess?) and I can give a better advice.
If you have 256 RAM probably you have a very old computer and 2GB won't impact it as much as a processor upgrade.

It's good to see you've seen the light, Dr. S (for once). But I don't know if you can hack being one of the Mac elite. It requires a certain sense of digital martyrhood that I don't see you as being proficient at. I don't think you'd fit in well with Steve Jobs' rebel alliance and their 9% market share. I think you're more suited toward Bill Gates' Evil Empire and their quest for world domination. It goes along with the whole social-Darwinist, Randian, "survival of the fittest" approach. If you get a Mac, you might start doing Google searches for Emma Goldman, or something. I'm not sure your system could handle it.

You're all mad, anyone that claims a PC is out performed by a Mac of equal price range is buying the wrong PC. If you knew what you were doing you'd be spending the money choosing the right parts for the right PC instead of going to a factory outlet like Dell, whose stock is retarded. Macs may look pretty, but for the price, they're way overrated and when they break, they break properly.
I'm PC all the way and unless Macs decide to change something to make them more like PCs I always will be. Oh wait! They already have... Intel chips, nVidia GPUs, soon they'll be charging you that $2000 for a white plastic cover to hide the shame that there's a PC inside it.

Macs are EXTREMELY outperformed by a PC in the same price range.
