Week 25
Humility
It is natural for a person to want recognition. We want to achieve
much in this life. The following Scriptures give us insights on the
proper balance of humility in our lives.

Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.. . . Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
PROVERBS 13:10; 16:18
A man’s pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
LUKE 14:11

Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life.

I like that proverb, but I don't understand what a man of lowly spirit is. Can anyone help?
Jesus elaborated on the concept when He advised we be like the guy invited to a banquet who goes to sit down at the least venerated spot and gets moved up the line by the host, instead of the guy who runs right for the head table, and is humiliated when he is forced to move down the line.
Jesus also demonstrated the principle when He "...humbled Himself even to death on the cross...", and then later was raised up to sit at the right hand of the Father.

How does humility differ from a lack of self-worth?
Low self-esteem may just being a "feeling" that life is not fair. It's inwardly focused. High self-esteem is the flip side of the same coin. It is inward focus when we should be focused on others.
We are to love others as we do ourselves - and who really hates themselves. It's pride to be so self concerned. If you feed and cloth yourself, you love yourself enough.

can you please define pride for me? if im not mistaken pride is one of the deadly sins. and if it means like being proud of your accomplishments etc. then i think ive committed a deadly sin every day of my life.
The Bible talks about that if you sin on one of the 10 commandments then you are gulty of them all.
